SanRafael A to Z: Cost of Living

It is always difficult to give the definitive cost of living; we all spend our money on different things, so what I have done below is outline the actual cost for a family of three living in San Rafael, and you can discount the payments that you don’t think will affect you to work out how much you think you, yourself, will spend.  I have not included entertainment or eating out in this.

This assumes living in a house, bought and paid for, outside of town.  Just as a guide renting a two bedroom apartment in town is anywhere from 1200 pesos up ($1=3.8 pesos, £1=6 pesos)

Monthly costs

Salary for full time caretaker working

Five and a half days a week, 8 hrs/day

(this assumes providing accommodation which is usual, especially if you live out of town on a finca

This is employing the worker in ‘white’.The above is the cost to the employer. The employee will receive 1,800 pesos of this

Ie he is declared as such and all taxes, health insurance etc are paid
